Our task was to film a short clip of someone walking into a room, across the room and to sit down in a chair opposite another person. They had to exchange a few lines of dialogue but the dialogue could be anything.
Before even starting to think about shooting this task we had to plan it out. We had to 'pick a location'. The location however was picked for us, our tas was to film someone walking into a room, closeing the door, walking towards another person sitting at a table, sit down and exchange 2 lines of dialouge. We then had to pick 'Actors' we only needed two actors so we asked two boys from our media class to do it. The third task was to think of 'dialouge' it only had to be two lines so the planning of the whole story wasnt necesary. We sripted a rough storyline witch was that 2 guys were haveing an affair, one single and the other married. They were planning to run away together and they had met up in a cafe to discuss it. After this we had to create a 'Shooting Plan' this was done by drawing out a simple story board and script with simple annotations. We had to create the charcheters so write down what type of personalites they would have, their attitudes, how they would dres..etc. We then had to plan the shots, the angles we wanted them from and the 'shot sizes'.
We had to direct and film our task.
We used a PD170 on a tripod in order to let us 'pan' if we needed it.
I did the preliminary task in a group. Me and another girl. We agreed to the script and explained it to the 2 boys we had chosen to act in it.
The point of this task was to practice using shot reverse shot, the 180 degree rule and match on match action. We had to use all these rules in order to film correctly. As well as all of this is was good practice for us so when we come to film our -'opening scene' for a film we would be sure what we were doing. After filming our preliminary tasks in several different shots we had to load it onto the computer useing a firewire cable and edit it, choosing the best shots to put together to make it run smoothly and effectively. adding in sounds and text if we wanted. Before doing this task i had no idea how to edit a film or cut and paste scenes together so it taught me alot witch again i will have to use when i come to film my main task. What i never realised was how different you could make a film look just in the 'editin suite' things like sound effects and slow motion can completly change what a scene looks like.
Problems we came across...
The first time we filmed our perliminary task we realised after uploading it onto the computer that we had broken the 180degree rule and had zoomed in witch looked silly, this taught us that you had to either zoom in before filming or just do a closer shot but not zoom whilst the camera is rolling. This all meant we had had to re-shoot. We then re shot, however somebody filmed over our tape (by-accident) and we were left with nothing. Tird time lucky we re-filme and eidited and were happy with the result.
Although it was annoying to have to do it three times, it made us more confident with filming and editing and we ended up with a bettter final piece.
